Board urges members to optimise their IAPRI profile

The IAPRI Board is repeating its invitation made during the June Symposium that member institutes should take advantage of the opportunities offered by both the IAPRI website and the online newsletter to publicise their activities and research, as well as the expertise of individuals in particular areas of packaging science.

IAPRI’s 2019 Symposium at the University of Twente provides 20/20 vision

Earlier in June, the ‘green lung’ of the University of Twente’s lush campus outside Enschede, the Netherlands, was an appropriate setting for lively debates about sustainability – as well as many other aspects of packaging - as IAPRI’s 29th Symposium got underway. Strong member interest in Working Group meetings

While there may be fewer operational Working Groups (WGs) within IAPRI than at other times in the past, the high member turnout for their meetings ahead of the June Symposium at the University of Twente showed they are as important as ever.

Improving Strategies for Recycling

Many of the research projects and initiatives aimed at improving recycling rates for plastics originate in countries which already have a strong track-record in collecting and recycling packaging polymers such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This widespread success with bottle PET has led researchers and businesses to look more closely at possible routes to similar success both with PET in other formats and with other polymers.

VTT helps guide wood-based bioplastics business to production scale

In Finland, VTT’s work as a technology partner to local startup Woodly has helped prepare it for the imminent launch of two versions of the company’s cellulose-based biopolymer (also called ‘Woodly’) for film production and injection molding.

IAPRI Changing Symposiums to Member Conferences and More!

The IAPRI board has made a subtle and intelligent change in its usage of the word Symposium. The board recognized that these events did not meet the true definition of a Symposium. So the 29th Symposium on Packaging in June in the Netherlands was the last usage for this type of member only event.
