Sustainable packaging design challenge
The SPC, working with environmental solutions platform Ubuntoo as its technology and community partner, says it is seeking concepts from early and growth-stage innovators in two categories:
- Packaging design optimization, such as improvements to product evacuation, functionality, resealability and closures, pack sizes and ease-of-use;
- Technology-based innovations, such as coatings, sensors, inserts or sachets and active packaging.
Example areas cited by SPC include spoilage prevention in prepared produce such as salad mixes, closure and reclosure innovation for cheese, damage and spoilage prevention for soft fruits and the challenges of convenience and food safety with fresh meat and other protein.
According to the organizer, priority will be given to submissions which at a post-research, pre-commercialization technology readiness level (TRL) of between 3 and 8.
Successful entries will benefit from being showcased at the SPC Advance 2021 event later this year, having the opportunity to present to an audience of brands, retailers, packaging businesses and investors in December – and a year’s membership of the SPC.
