Engineered Packaging and Distribution Research Group

Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia has been involved in packaging-related research since 1989.  The Engineered Packaging and Distribution Research Group (https://www.vu.edu.au/research/institute-for-sustainable-industries-liveable-cities/engineering-science-research/engineered-packaging-distribution) at Victoria University has a number of post-graduate research opportunities.  Research Scholarships available for exceptional international candidates.  The Graduate research scholarships (subject to a competitive application process ) include tuition fees as well as a living allowance (stipend) of AU$28,200 (2020 rate) per year.  Research projects within the Research Group include:
  • Statistical models for the characterisation of distribution vibrations and shocks
  • Statistical approach for the analysis and simulation of transport vibrations and shocks
  • Development of inexpensive, effective and biodegradable packaging materials
  • Development of techniques for the performance characterisation of environmentally friendly materials
  • Development of novel methods for determining the accumulation damage in packaging elements during distribution
  • Use of strain mapping (using high-speed digital image correlation) to optimise cushioning systems for impact absorption
  • Development of testing facilities to measure biodegradability of packaging materials
  • Development of methods of quality assessment of fresh and processed produce
  • Development of active and antimicrobial packaging systems
  • Study of migration chemicals and nanoparticles from packaging
